C2PA

A plain-language explanation for writers, not engineers.

What It Means

The Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity - an open standard for certifying the origin and history of digital content. C2PA attaches cryptographic metadata to files, creating a verifiable chain of custody from creation to publication.

Why writers should care: C2PA could eventually let you prove when, where, and how you wrote something - a digital fingerprint for your writing process.

In Context

Imagine every document carrying an invisible passport - a cryptographic record of when it was created, on what device, through which software, and every edit along the way. That is what C2PA promises for digital content. Major companies including Adobe, Microsoft, and Intel are backing the standard. For writers, C2PA could eventually replace subjective detection with objective provenance - proof of process, not probability scores.
