Writing Analyzer
Analyze your writing's readability, sentence variation, and vocabulary richness - the characteristics that make human writing unique.
How This Tool Works
The Writing Analyzer examines several measurable characteristics of your text that research has linked to human writing patterns. Unlike AI detectors, this tool doesn't claim to determine whether text is human or AI-generated - it simply measures the linguistic features that differentiate human prose.
What We Measure
Sentence Variation (Burstiness) - Human writers naturally vary their sentence lengths. Short punches followed by flowing complex sentences. AI tends toward uniformity. We measure the coefficient of variation in your sentence lengths. Learn more about burstiness →
Vocabulary Richness - The ratio of unique words to total words (type-token ratio). Higher diversity suggests more intentional word choice. We also measure hapax legomena - words that appear exactly once.
Readability - Using the Flesch-Kincaid formula, we estimate the reading grade level. Most published writing targets grade 8-12. Extremely uniform readability across paragraphs can signal generated text.
Paragraph Variation - Similar to sentence variation but at the paragraph level. Human writers create rhythm through paragraph length changes - a long analytical section followed by a one-line kicker.
What This Tool Cannot Do
This tool cannot determine if your text was written by AI. No tool can do this with certainty. What it can do is show you the measurable patterns in your writing that make it distinctly yours. If you've been falsely accused by an AI detector, understanding these metrics can help you build your defense.
